Modern Oriental Romance

Wanaka, New Zealand 瓦内卡湖,新西兰 is a trending destination wedding location right now. If you follow Vogue 时尚杂志, you would have seen that Nicole Warne of Gary Pepper Girl recently tied the knot with photographer Luke Shadbolt at the very same spot.

We are so excited to share a behind the scenes account from Feather & Stone Photography. We follow them on their journey through this Wanaka pre-wedding shoot for our lucky couple, Edith and Brian, who flew from Hong Kong. Our hats go off to this husband and wife team for their dedication to achieving the artwork that's close to their heart and souls. In their own words:

"Grand scenery and breathtaking backdrops were the words that resonated with Edith and Brian as we planned their pre-wedding portraits. We discussed many different countries, however, Edith and Brian kept coming back to New Zealand as their dream location. The diversity, isolation and raw beauty kept drawing them in.

The planning began. Seth and I started researching locations through New Zealand until we finally settled on the South Island and narrowed it down even further to Wanaka, and here is why.

Within a short drive, you can be standing at the edge of a glacial lake, wandering through a wild open valley or find yourself at the foot of the most immense, towering mountain ranges. One very special reason we chose this area in December is, that for 1 month only, lupins bloom all across the South Island. We knew how remarkable both the experience and images would be for our couple to be amongst never-ending fields of these stunning flowers.

From start to finish Seth and I planned the entire itinerary, styling & the story that would unfold, paired with delicate details, florals, gowns, hair & make-up to match across the entire 3-day shoot.

We suggested that Edith and Brian begin their experience by quietly sharing words about how much they meant to each other. We chose a glacial lake as the backdrop, as it had the space styled with simple organic greenery with florals akin to a small, intimate ceremony. Edith wore a stunning MXM Couture gown we hand-picked. After we arrived & took in the scenery, they read their personal words to each other from handmade paper with calligraphy by Seniman calligraphy, a treasured keepsake that they will cherish forever.

Next we chose a stunning Lavender farm at the base of a mountain, littered with rambling roses and lavender fields that went as far as you could see. A romantic and European inspired space, paired with the natural beauty of New Zealand. As the golden light set, they ran through the fields taking their time to explore and soak in the beauty.

For sunrise the next morning, we took a helicopter flight 私人直升机 to the top of a mountain overlooking Lake Wanaka瓦纳卡湖. It was an experience that none of us will ever forget. We arrived to blue skies, winding pathways and cliffs bathed in the golden morning light. We hand-picked a stunning gown and silk cape by Odylyne The Ceremony, which floated in the breeze as they wound their way towards the cliff's edge, stopping along the way to breathe it all in. We chose an earthy color palette for her bouquet, which was delicate, but wild, complimented with silk ribbon from Tono and Co.

That afternoon we drove through winding roads until we arrived at a valley of lupins we'd scouted days earlier. A crystal clear stream ran through the field and the lupins in tones of purple, lavender, blush, pink, apricot, and cream rolled through the never-ending fields. We wandered through the lupins as the dusty golden sun set on us. Edith wore another stunning gown by MXM Couture, hand-made and chosen for this shoot, paired with a stunning cape with floral detailing. She also wore a delicate gold headpiece by Anna Marguerite Couture.

On the last day, we drove a few hours through more breathtaking scenery, stopping along the way to take in all the sights. Finally, we arrived at the valley we'd scouted days earlier, wild, windswept and grassy laying at the base of green, gold and moss colored mountain ranges. Brian wore jewel tones, whilst Edith wore another stunning Odylyne The Ceremony Gown, understated, simple cream silk with flowing sleeves, complimented by the dark and wild inspired bouquet. They ran through the grassy valley, barefoot and swept up by the natural beauty. The perfect way to end our 3-day shoot.

What we loved about this shoot was the ability to craft a story, pairing the beauty of the backdrops as well as the genuine, honest love that Edith and Brian have. We paired backdrops with color palettes, textures & tones to compliment the surrounds. It wasn't just about the images though, it was the experience of a lifetime, the ability to travel, explore and have their dream shoot. One that we hope Edith and Brian cherish forever."
